On March 28, students from the Ateneo de Davao University College of Law took learning beyond the classroom and into the coastlines, participating in a meaningful environmental activity under the banner #BetterWorldforthePawikan. Organized by Green Juris and in partnership with Davao Light and Power Company, the group conducted a field trip at the Aboitiz Cleanergy Park located in Punta Dumalag, Matina Aplaya.

The activity began with an educational session centered on pawikans (marine turtles)—their ecological importance, current conservation status, and the pressing threats they face due to habitat destruction, pollution, and climate change. Participants were given a deeper understanding of how these gentle marine creatures serve as indicators of ocean health, and why collective efforts are necessary to ensure their survival. The discussion emphasized that protecting pawikans goes beyond symbolism—it is a responsibility tied to preserving marine ecosystems for future generations.

Following the learning session, the students actively engaged in a coastal clean-up along the shores of the park. Armed with sacks and a shared purpose, participants collected and segregated various types of waste that had accumulated along the coastline. The activity not only contributed to reducing marine pollution but also reinforced the connection between human behavior and environmental impact.

More than just a field trip, the initiative embodied the role of law students as advocates for environmental protection. By combining legal awareness with hands-on action, Green Juris continues to nurture future lawyers who are not only knowledgeable in the law but are also committed to defending the environment.

Through efforts like this, the call for a #BetterWorldforthePawikan becomes more than a campaign—it becomes a movement grounded in education, action, and purpose.
